It was a beautifully sunny, albeit windy, Saturday morning when I pulled up to Omar Shahab’s house in the central Auckland suburb.
I was warmly greeted at the gate and asked how I took my coffee before we took out cups in to the garage that plays home to the two impeccable Volkswagen Golf’s that hold a very special place in the heart of the enthisastic, friendly man from Guildford.
We sat and chatted briefly while I set up my computer and mic, teated to some fresh walnut bread and freshly brewed coffee. I soon felt as at home among friends as I have anywhere and, as with all car guys, the conversation quickly turned to garages and engines which is where I quickly hit record to bring you all into the conversation to learn about one mans love for a hot hatch and how it came to follow him across the world to New Zealand and grow into a much loved generational family of Golfs.
