You know those luxury yachts you see in the movies, that usually have a selection of beautiful women sunbathing on them, and have interiors nicer than any hotel you have every stayed at. Well thats what the new S 63 AMG Coupé is like, it may not have enough room for sunbathing women, but everything else it does in its stride. So what do we know about this new coupe. 5.5 Litre biturbo V8 with 430 kw (585 hp) oh and dont forget, 900 Nm of torque. I am pretty sure that there are yachts out there with less. There are also two transmission versions, the manual that can do 1-100 km/h in 4.3 seconds and the 4matic all wheel drive version that can do it in 3.9 seconds. To give you an idea of where that sites in the line up, its only 0.3 seconds behind the SLS AMG Black, so its pretty quick.
I have never been lucky enough to drive an S Class Merc, but have stuck my head in the window at the dealer to have a nose. And even that was an experience, Mercedes are not messing around. The interior is as opulent as it gets, soft rich leather mixed with beautifully finished trim details…… and what about those displays. It reminded me of a those boutique stores that never have price tags on any of the items they have for sale as you know all to well that if you have to ask, you cant afford it. There is no point in me even trying to cover all the features, this monster has everything. Airmatic air suspension, Road Surface Scanning and Active Body Control and weight-optimised, fade-resistant AMG high-performance composite brake system to name but a few, the S line has always been the most hi-tech hi-spec Mercedes you can buy.
Like any S Class launch there is always a world first feature and this time is like no other, Mercedes debut the curve tilting function. This function allows the S63 AMG Coupé to lean into bends in a manner similar to a motorcyclist or skier. The lateral acceleration acting upon occupants is reduced in a way akin to when driving in a steep curve, and passengers sit more firmly. On country roads in particular, the new curve tilting function enhances motoring enjoyment and comfort.
