Today’s racing scene has changed dynamically, visually and audibly and not all this change is good. Manufactures are generally falling in behind the “every must go green and super efficient” attitude, which is not all bad. It has given us countless developments in diesel and hybrid engine, regenerative braking, and greater understanding of aerodynamic. Don’t get me wrong, these advancements are great, but they all have a big side effect, they change the adrenaline pumping sound of motor racing, thankfully not all hope is lost. With Audi’s almost silent diesel R18 and the Porsche’s 919 small raspy V4, We can all take a moment of silent and thank the gods of motorsport that Toyota’s, yes that’s right Toyota’s TS040 uses a lovely old school V8 paired with a hybrid system. Forget for a minute that the 513 horsepower from the V8 and 473 horsepower from the electric systems gives it almost 1000bhp, listen to how it sounds ……………… All I can say is that I hope Toyota clean up at LeMan this year, because I want more of what they are bringing to the table.
