Jaguar has announced its plans to produce 250 Project 7 cars at the 2014 Goodwood Festival of Speed. The Project 7 will be hand built by Jaguar Land Rover’s new Special Vehicles Operations and will be the first car produced under the SVO division.
The Project 7 is based on the F-Type Roadster and is pretty much identical to the Project 7 concept car which in turn drew inspiration from the legendary D-Type race. The production Project 7 has a few changes to the design to comply with road legislation. The Project 7 shaves around 80kgs from the standard F-Type Roadster and features new front bumper with splitter, new side skirts, new rear bumpers, new rear wing, a shorter windscreen and that beautiful rollover hoop behind the driver’s seat.
It features a tuned version of Jaguar’s tried and tested 5.0-litre supercharged V8 producing 567bhp and 680NM of torque. That’s good for a 0-100 km/h time of 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 300 km/h. Take into account the Project 7’s 1530kg weight and this could very well be one of Jaguar’s most exciting road cars.
Modifications by SVO include a reworked 8-speed ZF paddle-shift auto, a rear-mounted electronic diff, ceramic-coated tailpipes, specially tuned suspension, and carbon-ceramic brakes are fitted as standard. There’s also been an extensive reworking in the aerodynamics with Jaguar claiming the Project 7 produces 177 per cent more downforce than the standard F-Type.
Jaguar plans to sell the 250 limited Project 7s in Europe, US, Asia, Australia, South Africa, Russia, and Brazil. Each one costing £135,000 (NZ$261,765). Good thing it comes with a “temporary” fabric roof then.
I quite like this new side of Jag, I think we will see quite a lot of cool stuff from them soon
