Polaris Slingshot – How badly do you want one?

Polaris-slingshot-1

Polaris, makers of quad bikes and snowmobiles, have created something incredibly crazy and cool. Meet the Polaris Slingshot.

It looks the product of a sci-fi convention. It reminds me of a cross between a Transformer, the Batpod, and Darth Maul. However, there’s so escaping what it is; it’s unashamedly a tricycle which means you’d need a motorcycle licence and helmet to drive one. And drive it you shall. Who wouldn’t want to have a go in it?

It joins the likes of other no compromise track day cars such as Morgan’s Three Wheeler, Caterham Seven, KTM X-Bow.

Powering the 790kg Slingshot is a GM-sourced 2.4-litre Ecotec engine with 171bhp and 225NM of torque. Only a 5-speed manual will be available.

Despite it’s spartan appearance there some creature comforts inside such as a 4.3-inch touchscreen, USB connectivity for the stereo, and erm seats.

Prices start from $23,999 in the US which seems like quite a lot for something that isn’t really a car. Then again if you’re cornered about value get a Kia.
