The Castrol BMW E30 Race Series is one of the most popular and well supported single-make series in the country, in fact the whole of the Southern Hemisphere.

BMW NZ supports the series by way of an incentive for racers to purchase parts at an authorised BMW dealer, plus a contribution towards a scholarship car.  The purpose of the car is to help foster young talent and introduce a rookie to the series.  The winner will receive entry into all six rounds of the season, fuel, tyres plus the use of an E30 race car for the duration of the championship.

E30Race Series Greg Murphy interview w Tom Groote

On Saturday 30th August at Hampton Downs, 14 aspiring drivers were evaluated in a series of tests including media, health, fitness and driving skill.  The decision making team included representatives from the Series committee as well as  Mike Eady of Track Time  and Greg Murphy. The winner of the inaugural scholarship was Tom Groote, who will be behind the wheel of the scholarship car come the start of the season on Sept 13 and 14.

Brought up in a world of Mini's, road trips, rallying and tinkering it is unsurprising that among my passions, since I can remember, cars have been something very special to me. The way they look, the way they smell and especially the way the sound. This passion has grown over the years from a spectator's seat at Formula 1 and WRC events to active participation in events such as the Cannonball Run NZ and Stance Off Events. My current love affair is with a slightly tuned Mk4 Golf GTI which brings me nothing but joy on the road. This love for driving and cars has led me start a Podcast dedicated to my love of driving called Drive Life NZ where I hope to share my story while exploring the varied stories of other enthusiasts. Dispelling the myths surrounding car people and celebrating our diversity.
