The Gumboot Rally is an automotive-themed scavenger hunt which is run twice a year by a small team of car enthusiasts based in Hamilton.
First run in 2013, the event is deigned to showcase New Zealand’s best driving roads. It is limited to 50 cars and attracts all sorts of vehicles, from modern to old school, sports cars to hatchbacks.
Each event is themed and participants are encouraged to dress up themselves and their cars for the event.
In exchange for a modest entry fee, participants are given a sticker pack for their car with race numbers and sponsor stickers, and are into win various prizes donated by the sponsors.
The next event runs 2nd and 3rd of May 2105 and the theme is “Race Car”.
My wife and I will be in attendance and are looking forward to the event. Our car theme is coming along nicely too!
Event details:
Day One
We start on the west coast in Raglan and drive some very senic and enjoyable roads through to Mount Maunganui
(approx 375 km)
For the evening – as we always do – we will have a dinner and prize giving for spot prizes and the best theme award at a secret location. This is the chance of the event to kick your heels off and chill with the people you have meet and cruised with for the day.
Day Two
We will kick off just outside Tauranga and wind our way back through to Hamilton
(approx 400km)
The Event will end at Joes garage in Hamilton for the grand prize giving and some of their now famous pizzas.
