Project Rusty – Rob’s Audi UR-Quattro – Part 10: GT is gone

I’ve finished stripping the GT and got quite a few useful parts from it. I’ve also learned lots of things about how these cars are put together and amassed a great collection of spare bolts and screws.

A VASK member came and chopped off the front slam panel and took the wings to repair another car.

I broke out the angle grinder and chopped out the rear parcel shelf to take along to Just Rust. The idea being that they can use it to repair the one in my car which was hacked to fit 6×9 speakers. They will also reinstate the holders for the sunroof when it’s removed.

I gradually stripped everything useful from the car.

Once that was all done I called a local metal recyclers to take the shell away. I have to admit to feeling a bit guilty about stripping the car like this but it wasn’t ever going to be economically viable to get the GT back on the road, and it helps get an ur quattro fixed 🙂

Just Rust have been making plans and are starting work on the quattro next week, with a Christmas deadline for completion. They have promised me some photos soon. Watch this space!
