In today’s relevant car news to 99% of the consumers, Ferrari have announced a new optional extra for baby in its range. The California T can now be had with what Ferrari calls a ‘Handling Speciale’ pack which is said to make the car sportier than before.
The ‘HS’ pack stiffens the suspension by 16% up front and 19% at the rear. However, this is at the cost of ride comfort. But as people who frequent gyms like say “no pain, no gain”. The Cali T’s ’Sport’ mode has been calibrated for more responsiveness.
One of the biggest criticisms the Cali T has received is that it doesn’t sound quite as fruity as previous V8 Ferraris. That’s due to having a smaller and more turbocharged engine than its predecessor. Ferrari have said they have fine tuned the Cali T’s exhaust to give a more aurally pleasing note.
The 3.9-litre twin-turbo V8 remains largely the same. There have been tweaks here and there for, again better responsiveness, but it still pumps out 412kW and 755NM of torque. Performance figures are still the same; 0-100 km/h in 3.6 seconds and a top speed just shy of 320 km/h.
The HS Pack will only be available to new Cali Ts, Ferrari won’t retrofit the upgrades to existing customer cars. Keen eyed enthusiasts will be able to spot the difference between ‘normal’ Cali Ts and ones with the HS pack by the matte finish on the grille, exhaust tips and rear diffuser. Proper geek stuff right there.
The HS will make its debut at this year’s Geneva Motor Show. Hopefully Ferrari will have something else more exciting to show because if the Cali T HS is the only new car they’ve got, the new shareholders they’ve got will be very worried. And so would the fans.
With what appears to be a new lotto winner every week, surely someone somewhere will want to have one of these. But for the rest of us, would you pick a Cali T over an Aston Martin DB9, Bentley Continental, or Mercedes-AMG SL63?
