There was a bit of a break in work on Rusty after Christmas, but over the last two weeks, Just Rust have been working on the car non-stop, and they’re making some excellent progress. I’m really happy with what they’re doing, I definitely chose the right place.

The front guard finally came off and that A pillar was revealed, and the colander-style rear end was welded up and made to be not holey any more. Some previous repairs in the rear end were uncovered and Just Rust found what they described as some of the worst repairs they’d ever seen. Bodged repair on top of another bodge, then all covered with underseal to hide it. They ended up cutting out the whole area and making it new.

All of the little holes around the car have been welded up. Final prep is happening on most of the repaired areas and all of the rust is gone. The underside needs checking out to make sure it’s all okay. The doors are prepped and the dent in the driver’s door is gone. The boot lid is almost done. It’s looking good for painting in the next week or two.

So, on to some pics. Firstly, that A pillar.

And repaired.

The other side wasn’t as bad but still needed a big chunk replacing.

All of the rust and holes from that towbar are gone.

The rust hidden under the windscreen seal is all sorted out.

So it’s coming along really well. Seeing the state of some of the rust and repairs I’m glad I haven’t driven this car yet. With the work that has been done I’m confident that this car is being repaired well and will be solid and as safe as possible.

I’m starting to get excited about getting it back and fixing the electrical and mechanical stuff. Like this for example.

Otherwise, I’ve been on a bit of a quest for some nice wheels which will suit the car and be in keeping with its age. I’d really like a set of Azev Type A’s in 17×8.5″ but they’re not easy to find. So that’s ongoing.

My new foglight arrived.

And I bought a nice set of mats.

And finally, this is something that shows you have an old German car!

I love everything about cars! Driving, looking at them, modifying. It's great to see what people do with cars, the different car cultures. If I was rich, my garage would be bigger than my house!
