Ewen Gilmour items raise funds for Variety Bash team

What could arguably be described as the funniest car in West Auckland is up for sale, along with a very special set of personalised plates.  The Ford Escape, once owned by the late legendary comedian Ewen ‘The Westie’ Gilmour, will be auctioned on TradeMe with a percentage of the sale being donated to Variety – The Children’s Charity.

“My brother was a huge supporter of Variety, especially the annual fundraising Bash event, so a percentage of the sale price of the car will go towards his old GT Limo team to help us get on the road for the 2017 event,” said Lyal Gilmour.

“Ewen’s set of old personalised plates, YTS3W, which is ‘Westy’ backwards, is also available as part of our fundraising initiative.  They would make the perfect addition to any car, especially his old car.”

The Variety Bash has raised in excess of $14M over 25 years, and funds collected during the event are redistributed to sick, needy and underprivileged kids, schools and organisations in New Zealand.

“We ourselves need to raise in the vicinity of $6000 to enter the Bash, so hopefully this and other auctions will go some way to ensuring we’re at the start line in March,” said Mr Gilmour.

“Further items include Mad Butcher Lounge Warriors tickets with game-day transfers in the GT Limo, as well as the opportunity to bid on a piece of artwork featuring his often requested ‘Car Lovers Date’ poem.”

To find the items, search TradeMe for Ewen Gilmour.  The auctions are underway now and conclude on Sunday May 29.

“Ewen participated in more than 15 Bash and Mini-Bash events, in doing so helping to raise millions of dollars for the charity,” said Mr Gilmour.

“The GT Limo team is committed to carrying on Ewen’s good work and do so in his honour.”
