Holden has announced the new Chevrolet Trailblazer, revealed in Brazil, will take on the mantle of Holden’s 4×4 SUV from Colorado 7 later in 2016, bringing an extra dose of luxury to the adventurous SUV.
With a more sophisticated design, increased content and refined ride comfort, Trailblazer will be a significantly different vehicle to its Colorado 7 predecessor, catering for different customers and needs.
Holden New Zealand Managing Director, Kristian Aquilina, said customer feedback and a change in vehicle design were important factors in the decision to rename the popular SUV Trailblazer.
“The Colorado 7 launched in New Zealand in late 2012 and since that time has enjoyed significant year over year growth, in the vicinity of almost 45%,” he said.
“New Zealanders have a real affinity with this model and understandably we’re eager to build on this success and look forward to the introduction of the new Holden Trailblazer later this year.
“We have great aspirations for the redesigned 2017 Trailblazer as we have dialled up the luxury and ride comfort to offer a more premium SUV that’s comfortable and confident in urban areas, but remains just as capable for weekend adventures.
“The move to adopt the Trailblazer name emphasises the vehicle’s new direction into a more luxurious and premium space. Like its Colorado sibling, the new 2017 Trailblazer will be introduced to New Zealand with significant improvements to driving comfort, whilst retaining its adventurous, go-anywhere spirit.”
Trailblazer debuts with a sophisticated new look, advanced vehicle and connectivity technology and the use of premium materials and design throughout. Whilst the redesigned Trailblazer shares capable 4×4 DNA with the Colorado truck, it caters to a very different customer with premium styling and comfort for all the family.
“Colorado has always been associated with exceptional off-road performance and Trailblazer shares that 4×4 heritage, however we expect it will be used in a very different way,” said Mr Aquilina.
“Trailblazer is a 4×4, seven-seat, family adventure vehicle that is refined and smooth on the road during the school run, but still able to head off the beaten track while searching for that perfect camping spot or hidden fishing hole.
“Trailblazer also delivers on customer expectations of comfort, luxury and advanced technology, with the use of premium cabin materials and new Apple CarPlay and Android Auto phone projection technology.”
PREMIUM AND CONFIDENT DESIGN
The 2017 Trailblazer leverages the power and strength present in Colorado’s global design language, but adds a layer of prestige and luxury through a sophisticated colour palette, signature LED daytime running lamps and the use of chrome accents.
Trailblazer’s luxurious and comfortable interior reflects its more premium positioning and move away from its more practical predecessor, Colorado 7. Holden’s new family adventure SUV boasts an all-new dash and instrument cluster design which, along with the use of premium materials and contrast stitch detail, make Trailblazer just as comfortable and rewarding in urban environment as it is on longer road trips.
Continuing Holden’s pursuit in offering customers the latest in-car connectivity features, the Trailblazer range introduces a brand new, eight inch colour touchscreen, housing the latest Apple CarPlay and Android Auto phone projection technology.
ENGINEERED FOR ADVENTURE
Key to appealing to a new customer base, Trailblazer combines sophisticated styling with composed and refined driving characteristics.
Holden’s Lead Dynamics Engineer, Rob Trubiani, said customer feedback was at the centre of the changes engineered into the Trailblazer program.
“Trailblazer will be used by customers in a variety of ways so we had to ensure its performance was versatile and capable but also refined.
“We also understand the vehicle will be mostly used by families and those expecting a more premium experience so, when working with the Brazilian homeroom, we’ve focused on reducing noise and vibration as well as ride isolation, to give customers a comfortable cabin environment,” said Mr. Trubiani.
The 2017 Holden Trailblazer will go on sale in New Zealand later this year.
