Toyota New Zealand has announced that the FJ Cruiser, an SUV model that has been part of its New Zealand line-up since 2010, will end production in August this year. The retro styled FJ Cruiser was launched to pay homage to the pioneering FJ40 that lay the foundations to the now world-renown Land Cruiser.

“The FJ Cruiser was a special model introduced as a testament to the original FJ40 and ride on its legendary namesake,” says Spencer Morris, Toyota New Zealand’s General Manager of Product. “Although we always knew the FJ Cruiser would have a limited production run I am confident the model with its rugged capability and retro design it will continue as a Toyota icon sought after and loved by enthusiasts.”

A memorable FJ Cruiser moment was the 16 day Top to Bottom challenge that saw Kiwis follow television presenter and Toyota ambassador, Marc Ellis, on an epic off-road journey from Cape Reinga to Bluff meeting locals and national legends along the way. The trip held in 2011 helped celebrate the 60th anniversary of Land Cruiser, which had been, and continues to be, a quintessential part of the New Zealand way of life.

A total 299 units have been sold to date with firm dealer orders available until production ends.

At which point it had almost taken full control, the incurable Mad Car Disease ran deep though my veins all the way to the bone. And things for my loved ones just got worse as the cars where now being bought at 1:1 scale, after a BMW, HSV, and couple of Audi's, the disease reached my brain, pushing me over the edge and down the rabbits hole into the world of the bedroom poster.
