Powertrain
Intelligent Real Time AWD
The HR-V AWD is available with Real Time AWD with the Intelligent Control System to help provide power to all wheels with traction in low grip driving conditions such as snow, rain and unpaved road surfaces. The electronically controlled All Wheel Drive system provides a fast, intuitive initial response minimising the impact on fuel efficiency. The clever system also improves everyday acceleration by driving all four wheels during take off. Handling is improved by vectoring power across all 4 wheels during spirited driving.
EarthDreams Direct Injection Engine
Combining a high output with low fuel consumption, the 1.5 litre DOHC i-VTEC petrol engine produces 96 kW at 6,600 rpm and maximum torque of 155 Nm at 4,600 rpm. Honda’s VTEC (Variable Timing and Lift Electronic Control) and VTC (Variable Timing Control) technologies combine with direct injection, strong tumble intake ports and an optimised piston shape to provide benefits in output and efficiency. Weight savings are made through a reduction in weight of the crankshaft and the adoption of independent bearing caps.
Body and Chassis
The HR-V AWD utilises a unique centre mounted fuel tank layout that enables the second row Magic Seats to fold completely flat to the floor, creating a more spacious and versatile interior package. Driving efficiency, handling performance and cabin quietness are further aided by an aerodynamic shape and a lightweight yet rigid body structure with significant noise insulating materials and design features. The body utilises Honda’s next generation Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure for enhanced frontal collision protection.
Light Weight Rigid Inner Frame Chassis
A lightweight, high strength, ultra high tensile steel inner frame has been utilised in the HR-V AWD. Over 20% of the HR-V AWD body is composed of advanced ultra high strength steel for improved rigidity that enhances collision protection. This inner frame, in conjunction with increased adoption of high tensile steel has also resulted in a lighter & stronger chassis. The extra rigidity supports more linear suspension operation, giving the driver a more connected and responsive drive.
Amplitude Reactive Dampers
Premium European technology features inside the HR-V’s AWD shock absorbers to make rough roads more comfortable and spirited driving firmer. Two damper rates in one mean no compromise between sporty handling and ride quality.
The core technology contained within the Amplitude Reactive Dampers is their two separate damping pistons, including a main piston and a second piston. To improve overall ride comfort, when smaller inputs occur during normal driving conditions, only the main piston works to provide the ideal damping characteristics. To improve the HR-V AWD ride and handling during more engaging driving experiences, the second piston operates to provide additional damping force. This technology was developed by German company ZF Sachs for Acura in the United States for their high end vehicles.
