F1 / Rosberg Announced Retirement From Formula One

After a Formula One season that came right down to the wire, Nico Rosberg finally realised his dream to become World Champion over team mate Lewis Hamilton and it seem that was enough for the Mercedes driver.

After a decade in the sport, the 31 year old German driver has announced he is hanging up his boots.

“When I won the race in Suzuka, from the moment when the destiny of the title was in my own hands, the big pressure started and I began to think about ending my racing career if I became world champion.” said Rosberg. “On Sunday morning in Abu Dhabi, I knew that it could be my last race and that feeling cleared my head before the start.”

Rosberg made his final desertion on Monday following the race. Team principal for Mercedes, Toto Wolff said the decision  was “brave and “testament to the strength of his character.”

“He has chosen to leave at the pinnacle of his career, as a world champion, having achieved his childhood dream. The clarity of his judgement meant I accepted his decision straight away when he told me.”

Rosberg also informed his team mate and closest rival Lewis Hamilton before going public with his decision this morning.

“Will I miss the rivalry?” Hamilton said to Sky Sport, ” Of course. It is a shame that he won’t allow me to take (the title) back or fight to take it back but that is his choice and I respect his decision; go out on top while you can.”

Mercedes are yet to confirm who they are eyeing up for Rosberg’s replacement in the up coming 2017  F1 season but you can bet Toto Wolff’s phone is running hot right now. Hey, Alonso! Want to win races again?
