Hyundai New Zealand has announced they will be adding the all-new Hyundai Palisade to their New Zealand SUV line-up later this year.

The Palisade enters the Hyundai line-up at the top of the SUV line-up, being the largest Hyundai made to date. The Palisade enters the market to compete with other large SUV’s, such as Mazda’s CX-9 and Nissan’s Pathfinder.

Hyundai New Zealand General Manager, Andy Sinclair says “We’re excited to be able to offer Kiwis the all-new Palisade just in time for summer. It is the ultimate family vehicle for practical, comfortable daily use and venturing further afield for a family roadie.”

The new Palisade is certainly not slight in stature, measuring 4980mm in length, 1975mm in width and with a wheelbase of 2900mm.  For context, the Palisade shadows Hyundai’s already large Santa Fe, with the Palisade being 210mm longer, 85mm wider and the wheelbase being 135mm longer than the Santa Fe.

Although exact specifications for New Zealand are yet to be confirmed, Hyundai Australia has confirmed that the Palisade will be available with a choice of a 3.8-litre petrol V6 producing 213kW and 355Nm of torque, or a 2.2-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel producing 147kW and 440Nm of torque.  Engines variants are matched to an eight-speed conventional torque converter automatic.

Inside, the new Palisade appears to be spacious and well-appointed.  Hyundai says the cabin has been designed with adventurous families in mind, while offering the latest technology features. This includes a 10-inch navigation display, wireless charging, seven USB outlets, and ventilated seats for the second row.  The interior also offers generous cargo capacity and 16 cup-holders!

The Palisade will also offer the latest safety systems, including (in the centre instrument cluster) an indicator-activated live-video display of the rear of the Palisade providing a wide view of the vehicle’s blind-spots. The Palisade also features a rear passenger alert system, issuing a reminder to the driver should they accidentally leave a child or pet behind in the back after parking.

Full specifications and pricing will be made available closer to the New Zealand launch of Palisade.

The DriveLife team looks forward to doing a full length feature review.
