Volvo Cars New Zealand has announced the XC40 Recharge to its range, the company’s first fully electric car to arrive on New Zealand shores in late 2022.
The XC40 Recharge, based on the international multi-award-winning best-selling small luxury SUV, is the first of a family of fully electric Volvos. Volvo says it represents a true milestone for Volvo Cars: the company’s first electric car and another to offer customers Volvo’s brand-new infotainment system powered by Google’s Android operating system.
Volvo Cars say its plan to launch a fully electric car every year until 2023 is well underway, as it seeks to make all-electric cars 50 per cent of global sales by 2025, with the rest hybrids. Recharge will be the overarching name for all chargeable Volvos with a fully electric and plug-in hybrid powertrain.
“We are looking forward to introducing New Zealand drivers to Volvo’s uniquely Scandinavian fully electric Recharge range and, we are not surprised to see the 2022 allocation of these vehicles already sold out with all new orders taken from this point onwards aligned to 2023 vehicle arrivals,” said Ben Montgomery, Volvo Cars New Zealand General Manager.
Ben says the XC40 Recharge is everything customers expect from a Volvo, with the addition of a state-of-the-art, fully electric all-wheel-drive powertrain that offers a range of up to 450 km (NEDC) on a single charge and output of 300 kW. The battery charges to 80% of its capacity in 40 mins on a fast-charger system. The XC40 P6 Single Motor starts from $83,900 plus on-road costs with the P8 Dual Motor model starting from $97,900 plus on-road costs.
The Android-powered infotainment system is fully integrated with Volvo On Call, the company’s digitally connected services platform providing customers with additional benefits such as, roadside assist via the New Zealand Automobile Association.
