OMODA SUV set for New Zealand in 2024

New brand to our market, Chinese brand OMODA have confirmed the arrival of the OMODA SUV models, slated for a Q1 2024 launch.

OMODA draws its name from the fusion of the letter O, symbolising oxygen and life, and “Moda,” meaning “modern.” OMODA says it will offer a diverse range of SUV’s and powertrains, with OMODA C5 And E5 being confirmed as the first models for New Zealand. OMODA C5 will offer customers the option of a 1.5T or 1.6T powertrain whilst the E5 will be OMODA’s first full EV offering. The marque belongs to the Chery group.

Under the new design concept of “Art in motion” proposed by the OMODA R&D team, the eye-catching sliding back styling of OMODA’s CROSSOVER-style SUV will provide users with the most futuristic technology, thus responding to the young personality proposition, says the company.

OMODA says its E5 incorporates EIC technology, significantly reducing energy consumption to an ultra-low 15 kWh/100 km while offering an impressive range of up to 450 km. OMODA says its E5 will offer a zero to 80 per cent DC fast charge in less than 35min or less.

On August 1 this year, the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) released the latest safety test results with the OMODA 5 receiving the highest rating of five stars.

Since its launch in Australia six months ago, OMODA has sold 4,513 units. Time will tell how well the brand does in New Zealand. There is a lot of competition in all of the SUV segments, and the company will need a good point of difference to gain traction in the market.
