Peugeot New Zealand says it is thrilled to announce its launch of the all-new 2024 Peugeot 208 GT Hybrid – a model they say is a dynamic blend of cutting-edge technology and eco-friendly innovation, combining Peugeot’s signature style with advanced hybrid technology.

New Zealand will see just the one model, with the top-spec 208 GT Hybrid the very first vehicle from the classic European manufacturer to feature a state-of-the-art hybrid powertrain, ensuring good fuel efficiency and reduced emissions without compromising on performance, claims Peugeot.

Brian Carr, GM Sales for Peugeot NZ, says the car represents a significant forward-looking turning point for Peugeot.

“Not all cars get hand-picked to launch a new powertrain for an established, industry-leading brand, so you can be sure the ones that are, are special. Very special. And the 2024 Peugeot 208 GT Hybrid ticks that box.

“Plus as the first Peugeot to boast the new hybrid powertrain, it also underlines Peugeot’s commitment to sustainability and electrifying all Peugeot models, both passenger cars and commercial vehicles, by 2025.”

The new 208 GT Hybrid boasts a sleek and modern design, characterised by bold lines, an aerodynamic profile and Peugeot’s distinct ‘3-claw’ lion-design LED daytime running lights. Exterior upgrades include a black grille with body-colour inserts, full LED headlamps featuring a distinctive night-specific signature, and a glossy black rear skirt.

Inside, the cabin is a testament to Peugeot’s commitment to luxury, innovation and allure with a leather steering wheel, customisable ambient lighting in 8 colours, and advanced connectivity features.

Key Features of the PEUGEOT 208 GT Hybrid:

  • Engine: 1.2L Turbo, 3-cylinder
  • Fuel consumption 4.7L/100km
  • Transmission: 6-speed Automatic with manual mode
  • Safety: 4 Airbags, Lane Keep Assist and Parking Assist System
  • Panoramic Glassroof, 17” Alloy Wheels, LED Daytime Running Lamps (DRL)

Carr says Peugeot New Zealand is proud to be introducing a vehicle that aligns with global efforts to reduce carbon footprints.

“The 208 GT’s hybrid system not only lowers fuel consumption but also minimises environmental impact, making it an ideal choice for eco-conscious drivers. The PEUGEOT E-LION project is a 360° approach to achieving the Zero Carbon goal in 2038.”

The 2024 Peugeot 208 GT Hybrid is available now for test drives at Peugeot dealerships across New Zealand.

Priced at $45,990, it includes various financing options available to suit different customer needs.

How on earth to start this? I've been car/bike/truck crazy since I was a teen. Like John, I had the obligatory Countach poster on the wall. I guess I'm more officially into classic and muscle cars than anything else - I currently have a '65 Sunbeam Tiger that left the factory the same day as I left the hospital as a newborn with my mother. How could I not buy that car? In 2016 my wife and I drove across the USA in a brand-new Dodge Challenger, and then shipped it home. You can read more on www.usa2nz.co.nz. We did this again in 2019 in a 1990 Chev Corvette - you can read about that trip on DriveLife. I'm a driving instructor and an Observer for the Institute of Advanced Motorists - trying to do my bit to make our roads safer.
