MG Motor has announced the launch of the all-new, completely redesigned MG HS in New Zealand, ushering in the second generation of our mid-size SUV that marks a bold leap forward in design and innovation, says the company.

Apparently, the latest iteration of the MG HS has been redesigned from the ground up, boasting a new exterior, interior, and enhanced all-round performance. Powered by a 1.5-litre turbo engine mated to a dual-clutch transmission, MG claims this model guarantees an exhilarating driving experience every time you take the wheel.

MG Motor Australia and New Zealand CEO Peter Ciao said: “The MG HS has been completely reengineered to redefine the mid-size SUV segment in New Zealand. At MG, our commitment is unwavering: we deliver exceptional value without ever sacrificing quality, innovation, or cutting-edge technology and safety. This new model exemplifies our dedication to excellence and our vision for the future.

“We’ve meticulously rebuilt the HS from the ground up, to deliver a revolutionary mid-size SUV that sets a new standard in performance and sophistication.

“Our new-generation MG HS redefines space and luxury, surpassing its predecessor with an expansive interior designed for ultimate comfort. Equipped with a comprehensive suite of advanced technology and safety features, it offers an unparalleled driving experience, giving you the freedom to enjoy every journey to its fullest.

“We are thrilled to see this vehicle make its mark on New Zealand roads and become a cornerstone for families nationwide. This launch represents a significant advancement for MG, underscoring our commitment to delivering cutting-edge, innovative vehicles that elevate the driving experience in New Zealand.”

The all-new HS has combined CO2 emissions reduced to 156g/km and a combined fuel consumption of 6.9L/100km. These advancements not only outshine its predecessor but are also complemented by a more expansive interior, thanks to an extended wheelbase.

MG Motor New Zealand Chief Operating Officer, Harrie Yan, said “The new HS embodies MG’s new design values in a smaller format and is a showcase in premium global design where form follows function.

“The HS is packed with cutting edge technology and a perfect fit for today’s market as a growing number of car buyers look to upgrade into affordable yet premium cars.”

The Vibe grade comes complete with automatic LED headlights, 18-inch alloy wheels, and a cutting-edge 12.3-inch Dual Screen Entertainment System which features seamless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity in the centre console.

Upgrade to the Excite grade for even more advanced features, including 19-inch alloy wheels, a 360-degree camera, and the convenience of remotely controlling your air conditioner or heater via MG iSmart app. The Essence grade elevates the all-new MG HS with a panoramic sunroof, an eight-speaker audio system, and the convenience of wireless smartphone charging.

Safety takes centre stage in the all-new HS, featuring MG’s Pilot safety suite. Equipped with adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking and blind-spot detection, among many more features, this suite represents the forefront of advanced safety technology the company says.

How on earth to start this? I've been car/bike/truck crazy since I was a teen. Like John, I had the obligatory Countach poster on the wall. I guess I'm more officially into classic and muscle cars than anything else - I currently have a '65 Sunbeam Tiger that left the factory the same day as I left the hospital as a newborn with my mother. How could I not buy that car? In 2016 my wife and I drove across the USA in a brand-new Dodge Challenger, and then shipped it home. We did this again in 2019 in a 1990 Chev Corvette - you can read about that trip on DriveLife, and again in 2023 buying a C5 Corvette and shipping it home. I'm a driving instructor and an Observer for the Institute of Advanced Motorists - trying to do my bit to make our roads safer.
