Yet another Chinese brand is about to enter our market, as XPENG has announced its official entry into New Zealand.
XPENG will mark its New Zealand debut with the opening of its inaugural showroom in Auckland, giving customers direct access to sales, service, and test drive experiences. Building on this launch, XPENG plans a rapid rollout across key cities, with new locations in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch,
Tauranga and Hamilton set to open from early 2026.

Who is XPENG?
Founded in 2014, XPENG says it is recognised worldwide for blending advanced technology with AI-powered innovation, making intelligent driving experiences accessible to a broad range of customers. The company claims it is at the forefront of smart EV and mobility development, integrating autonomous capabilities, connected services, and premium craftsmanship into its vehicles.

“Smart EV Leadership”
XPENG’s says its next-generation E/E architecture underpins its leadership in smart EV innovation. Designed for scalability, high performance, and rapid over-the-air (OTA) updates, this architecture ensures vehicles evolve continuously with user needs. By adopting agile, internet-era methodologies, XPENG shortens R&D cycles while delivering real-world benefits such as enhanced ADAS capabilities (powered by NGP) and seamless connectivity.

Beyond EVs, the E/E architecture supports XPENG’s broader AI-driven mobility vision across intelligent vehicles, robotics, and flying cars, positioning the company as a true “Future Mobility Explorer.” For customers, the company says this modular approach guarantees long-term value with upgradable features, improved energy efficiency, and a focus on safety and sustainability.
Damian Royce, Head of Marketing for XPENG New Zealand operations, said; “New Zealand is a natural launchpad for XPENG’s operation, given its market’s strong focus on innovation, sustainability, and premium driving experiences. These are values that align perfectly with our DNA. We are confident we can deliver world-class service and accelerate EV adoption across the country.”
Further details on additional dealership locations and vehicle range will be announced closer to launch.
