Geely New Zealand has confirmed that an all-wheel-drive version of the Starray EM-i plug-in hybrid SUV will arrive here in early October.
The new Starray EM-i AWD sits at the top of the local line-up and adds a dedicated rear electric motor to the existing Electric Hybrid powertrain. Geely says total system output is 220kW and 412Nm, with a claimed 0–100km/h time of 6.3 seconds.
Pricing starts at $55,990 plus on-road costs, putting the AWD plug-in hybrid variant just below the $56,000 mark.
The Starray EM-i AWD uses a 29.8kWh battery and has a claimed WLTP electric-only range of up to 130km. Geely also quotes a combined WLTP range of up to 1,065km, with a 60-litre fuel tank fitted.

AWD Plug-in Hybrid Powertrain
The significant change for this version is the addition of an 80kW/150Nm rear electric motor. That allows the Starray EM-i AWD to send power to all four wheels when required, with Geely saying the system is intended to improve traction and stability on wet roads, gravel, and uneven surfaces.
The AWD model also gains Snow and Off-road drive modes, which join the existing Pure, Hybrid, and Power modes. It also uses a five-link rear suspension setup.
For buyers looking at day-to-day electric running with petrol range for longer trips, the headline figures are the 130km claimed electric-only range and the 1,065km claimed combined range.
Geely New Zealand Brand Manager Jordan Haines says the new variant is aimed at how many New Zealand drivers use their vehicles.
“The Starray EM-i AWD brings together electric driving for everyday journeys, petrol-backed flexibility for longer travel and all-wheel-drive confidence when conditions change,” says Haines.
“That combination is particularly relevant in New Zealand, where drivers can move between urban roads, motorways, gravel routes and regional roads within the same journey.”

Equipment and Features
Inside, the Starray EM-i AWD retains the same five-seat cabin layout as the rest of the Starray EM-i range. Standard equipment includes 19-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic power sunroof with sunshade, heated, ventilated and massaging front seats, a 13.4-inch head-up display, a 16-speaker Flyme Audio sound system, a 360-degree surround-view camera, a powered tailgate, and active safety systems.
Geely says the Starray EM-i AWD is built on its Global Intelligent Electric Architecture, which brings the vehicle’s electric, software, and connectivity systems together on one platform.
