The blacked-out special edition adds 24-inch wheels, second-row captain’s chairs and a $193,490 starting price.

GMC has added a darker, more distinctive version of its full-size Yukon Denali to the New Zealand range. Called the Yukon Denali Signature Black, the locally specified special edition is priced from $193,490 including GST but excluding on-road costs.

Finished exclusively in Onyx Black, the Signature Black package combines black exterior badging and trim with 24-inch black accessory wheels. Australian-market vehicles also receive an illuminated GMC grille emblem, but that feature is not included on the New Zealand version.

What changes with Signature Black?

The visual changes include a Black Vader Chrome grille and surround, matching front fascia, side mouldings and lower rear fascia trim, a gloss-black bonnet moulding, gloss-black roof rails and black exterior badges. The result is less chrome-heavy than the standard Denali, although the mechanical package is unchanged.

Seven seats and more space in row two

Inside, the Signature Black uses a seven-seat layout with individual captain’s chairs in the second row. Jet Black perforated leather-appointed upholstery, heated front and rear seats, ventilated front seats, tri-zone climate control and a power-sliding centre console are standard.

Cabin technology includes a 16.8-inch GMC infotainment touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless phone charging, a 14-speaker Bose surround-sound system and a 15-inch colour head-up display. Rear passengers get two 12.6-inch touchscreens and two GMC-branded wireless headphones.

V8 power and 3.6-tonne towing

Power comes from GM’s 6.2-litre EcoTec3 petrol V8, producing a claimed 313kW and 624Nm. It is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and Active Response four-wheel drive. Air Ride Adaptive four-corner suspension and Magnetic Ride Control are also standard.

GMC quotes a maximum braked towing capacity of 3,628kg when the vehicle is fitted with the appropriate weight-distribution hitch. Towing hardware includes a two-speed transfer case, electronic limited-slip differential, Trailer Sway Control and an integrated trailer brake controller. A 360-degree HD camera system offers up to 11 views, including Hitch Guidance with Hitch View.

Safety equipment

Standard driver-assistance equipment includes enhanced automatic emergency braking, forward collision alert, front pedestrian braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, rear pedestrian alert, front and rear parking sensors, a rear camera mirror and GMC’s Safety Alert Seat.

“The Yukon Denali Signature Black reflects how closely we listen to our customers and respond to what they want from a premium SUV. Developed with their feedback in mind, the second-row Captain’s Chairs and purpose-selected 24-inch wheels, finished in a distinctive all-black treatment, give customers a more individual expression of GMC luxury,” said Greg Rowe, Acting Managing Director of GM Australia and New Zealand.
