New Roadster SP Entry Grade

The main change is the introduction of the MX-5 Roadster SP, a new entry point for the soft-top range.

The Roadster SP keeps the MX-5’s familiar lightweight chassis, rear-wheel-drive layout and six-speed manual transmission. It features 17-inch black metallic alloy wheels, a black fabric roof and cloth-trimmed sports seats.

All local MX-5 variants continue to use Mazda’s SKYACTIV-G 2.0-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine, producing 135kW and 205Nm. The Roadster SP is paired with a six-speed manual transmission.

Manual models retain Mazda’s Asymmetric Limited Slip Differential, which varies differential locking force under acceleration, deceleration and changes in rear-wheel load.

Roadster Takami Replaces Roadster GT

The MX-5 Roadster Takami replaces the previous Roadster GT grade. It adds Recaro sports seats trimmed in leather and Alcantara.

The Takami also carries over Dynamic Stability Control Track mode, which is designed to intervene later than the standard stability control calibration.

17-inch BBS forged alloy wheels, red Brembo brake callipers and Bilstein dampers complete the performance-focused package.

RF Homura Continues with Retractable Hardtop

The RF Homura remains the retractable hardtop variant in the range and is offered with a six-speed automatic transmission.

Equipment includes heated leather-trimmed seats and a Bose audio system.

New Zinc Green Metallic Paint

A new Zinc Green Metallic paint finish will also be introduced on the MX-5. Mazda says the colour takes inspiration from zinc chromate primer, with bluish metallic flakes used to create a cooler metallic tone.

Technology and Safety Updates

The updated MX-5 range gains Lane Keep Assist as standard, replacing the previous lane departure warning system. The Smart City Brake System has also been updated to include pedestrian and cyclist detection. Inside, the centre display now includes touchscreen functionality.

Mazdacare Coverage

As with other New Zealand-new Mazda vehicles, the MX-5 is covered by Mazdacare. This includes a five-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty, Mazda On Call roadside assistance, and scheduled servicing for five years or 100,000km at no extra cost.

The updated Mazda MX-5 range is due in New Zealand from October 2026.
