Following on from the arrival of the new Mercedes-AMG A 45 S late last year, the rest of the A Class lineup can be seen in New Zealand showrooms now. The new Mercedes-Benz A-Class receives various changes but also a significant lift in standard equipment, says Mercedes-Benz New Zealand.

The A-Class lineup now includes Panoramic Sunroof, AMG Line interior and exterior, Metallic Paint, Electric Memory front seats, KEYLESS -GO, DISTRONIC, and 360-degree camera across all engine types.  Moving forward, the A-Class will only be offered in the Hatchback body style, however there is limited launch stock of the Sedan available.

2024 Mercedes-Benz A Class: Technology

In the new A-Class, both hardware and software have taken a major leap forward: the latest generation of MBUX is intuitive to operate and capable of learning, according to Mercedes-Benz. The driver and central displays create a holistic, aesthetic experience and can be customised as desired with the help of the newly designed display styles (Classic with all relevant driver information, Sporty with the dynamic rev counter, Discreet with reduced content), three modes (Navigation, Assistance, Service) and seven colour worlds.

The telematics system has been revised with its new design and improved performance. Connectivity with smartphones is possible via Apple Carplay or Android Auto Wireless, and for further connectivity has been added with a USB.

With the activation of online services in the Mercedes me App along with the ‘Hey Mercedes’ voice assistant, the new A-Class is more capable of dialogue and learning. For example, certain actions can also be triggered without the activation term “Hey Mercedes”. The MBUX voice assistant can also explain vehicle functions and provides support when you want to connect your smartphone via Bluetooth.

The new lineup has also been given an update in terms of safety assistant with the introduction of Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC as standard equipment, with the Driver Assistance package optionally available (standard for Mercedes-AMG). So yes, the A Class finally has adaptive cruise control as standard equipment.

A 250 4MATIC and Mercedes-AMG A 35 4MATIC variants receive an update with respect to their engines. As mild hybrids, these are equipped with an additional 48-volt electrical system that supports agility when starting off with 10 kW more power.

Interior: As standard, the new Mercedes-AMG A-Class offers the AMG Performance steering wheel including AMG steering wheel buttons, with which the driver can control AMG-specific features such as the three-stage ESP or AMG Dynamics – without taking their hand off the steering wheel.

How on earth to start this? I've been car/bike/truck crazy since I was a teen. Like John, I had the obligatory Countach poster on the wall. I guess I'm more officially into classic and muscle cars than anything else - I currently have a '65 Sunbeam Tiger that left the factory the same day as I left the hospital as a newborn with my mother. How could I not buy that car? In 2016 my wife and I drove across the USA in a brand-new Dodge Challenger, and then shipped it home.
