Alfa Romeo have launched the all-new 4C Spider at the Detroit Motor Show.
Hand built in Modena, Italy with a carbon-fibre monocoque chassis, the 4C has a relatively small 1750cc direct injection turbocharged engine. A dry weight of just 955kg gives the car an excellent power to weight ratio.
The mid mounted engine is a four cylinder direct injection turbo with dual intercoolers producing 240PS (177kW) and 258 lb ft (350Nm) of torque. 0-100kph is achieved in 4.1 seconds, so it’s pretty fast.
Alfa claim that various advanced engine design features including an advanced turbo and exhaust manifold, eliminate turbo lag and produce instantaneous torque delivery.
For racy sounds, an optional titanium dual mode exhaust can be specified.
Transmission is a paddle shifted twin clutch six speed gearbox which can shit in as little as 130 milliseconds.
I have to say it looks pretty good! I like the idea of returning to lighter, lower powered, simple (ish) sports cars.
