The name might suggest some Hunger Games style fight to the death for car designers but the ‘Ultimate Car Design Battle’ is an opportunity for those wanting to further expand their car designing skills to the next level.

Hosted by the Car Design Academy of Tokyo with the support of Car Styling Magazine, this is the first time this event will take place. CDA hope it will be an annual event in the future. The Battle will be held at the Nakameguro Lounge in Tokyo on the 2nd of August.

There’ll be two rounds; the first round is to design a SUV to drive around the chic area of Nakameguro. Which is quite relevant given the amount of Porsche Cayennes, Range Rovers, and G-Wagens around. The second round is to design a sports car that’ll be launched in 2020.

This event will also provide up and coming car designers a chance to meet established professional designers and get to know the industry better. It’ll also give everyone else a glimpse of where car design will go in the future.

Judging the event will be some big names in the designing business and Mr Matsunga, who is the Editor-in-Cheif of Car Styling Magazine. The grand prize is ¥100,000 with other “luxury prizes” also available. It’s open to car design students and non-students alike, the important thing is your burning passion for automotive design.

Even if you don’t want to participate it’ll be an interesting event to attend simply to see the creativity and ideas of future car designers. After all, we might be driving around in something designed by the designers at this event in the not too distant future.

More information can be found on the website ( We have been kindly invited to attend this event so keep an eye out for our coverage of it next month.
