Renault New Zealand launched Duster today, a compact-sized SUV, into the local market for the first time.

Duster boasts exterior styling with a distinctly assertive and robust look, and is equipped with standard driving technology and safety features. Renault NZ says the Duster is both versatile and comfortable for everyday driving whether that be zipping around the city, or venturing further afield.

Duster joins Renault’s SUV siblings Captur and Koleos, and is being launched with a special price of $27,990.

“With the arrival of Duster, we have another model in our range that offers great value, and provides Kiwis with an affordable choice to join the Renault driving experience,” says Sam Waller, Renault New Zealand General Manager.

According to Renaul, the Duster is a vehicle of distinctive styling. The tone is set by the aggressive lines and chrome trim of the grille, alongside a raised waistline and powerful C-shaped light signature. These strong, powerful lines are enhanced by 16-inch alloy wheel rims that underline the car’s character.

The rear bench seat features a 1/3-2/3 split-fold function, while the boot boasts 445 litres loading capacity. With the rear bench seat folded, the maximum carrying capacity extends to 1,623 litres.

Duster comes with a host of technology to enhance travelling comfort and driving pleasure. The multi-view camera incorporates four cameras (one at the front, one on either side and one at the rear). The system allows the driver to view the area around the vehicle and manoeuvre in complete peace of mind when using the vehicle in confined situations. The system is activated automatically when reverse gear is engaged.

Duster also comes with Blind Spot Warning. Four ultrasound sensors located on either side of the vehicle, detect any other vehicles, including motorcycles and trucks, coming from the rear or the side. A warning light flashes in the door mirror housing if any danger is detected.

Speed limiter and cruise control functions help maintain speed without driver effort, whilst the automatic headlight activating system activates the vehicles headlights at dusk, giving drivers the safety and convenience of the right lights when needed.

The multimedia system simplifies your journey with an intuitive 7” touchscreen and various functional features such as satellite navigation, and smartphone connectivity with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

The price includes a 3-year unlimited kilometre warranty, roadside assistance for 3 years and service intervals at 30,000kms or 12months (whichever comes first).

“Kiwis love their SUVs as they are well suited to our lifestyle. With its versatility, reliability and affordability it’ll be well suited to families or adventure seekers. With the 3-year warranty, roadside assistance and 30,000km service intervals, we’re providing our customers with extra peace of mind so they can get on with the things they love,” adds Mr. Waller.

Customers have a choice of colours from Glacier White, Iron Blue, Fusion Red, Atacama Orange, Mercury Silver, Pearl Black, and Comet Grey.

Duster is available through Renault’s full dealer network which has grown considerably this year. Renault’s most recent appointments include Automarque in Lower Hutt, Waggs Renault in Masterton, Duncan and Ebbett in Tauranga, Ebbetts Hawke’s Bay, Rosetown Renault in Te Awamutu, and Mark Cromie Renault in Whangarei.

Mr Waller adds, “We now have a full dealer network, and we’ve got exceptional product range with more to come, so look forward to helping Kiwis discover the Renault for them.”

How on earth to start this? I've been car/bike/truck crazy since I was a teen. Like John, I had the obligatory Countach poster on the wall. I guess I'm more officially into classic and muscle cars than anything else - I currently have a '65 Sunbeam Tiger that left the factory the same day as I left the hospital as a newborn with my mother. How could I not buy that car? In 2016 my wife and I drove across the USA in a brand-new Dodge Challenger, and then shipped it home. You can read more on We did this again in 2019 in a 1990 Chev Corvette - you can read about that trip on DriveLife. I'm also an Observer for the Institute of Advanced Motorists - trying to do my bit to make our roads safer.
